The Drallan Federal Monarchy was the first interstellar Vaikan empire. They are most well-known for creating a series of jumpgates from the Twin Hearts Nebula to the Greenwater Nebula. These jumpgates, modeled from Karnasian technology, would be used by the DFM's successors generations later.

Two thousand years since its formation, the DFM eventually collapsed in on itself after poor management of territories.

Each colony had their own local government, while Ucharpli consisted of a Council with the king as the overseer and commander-in-chief.

History and legacy

The DFM was formed after the Yallvus Revolution after a long series of reforms. They are known for managing to recover after being conquered by the Eghos Oligarchy, altogether retaliating and wiping out their empire. Their military strategy is often praised by modern Vaikan scholars, and many of their tactics are still used today.

The DFM would eventually die out after becoming too stretched out to be properly managed. Thus, a dark age would follow when the colonies became isolated from one another.

Today, their history is a major part of the curriculum of Karalian schoolchildren.


The ancient symbol of the DFM

The DFM was molded from Altus Banya's global empire. With intensive reforms, it became a constitutional monarchy, being managed in two parts: a Council which oversaw political affairs and a Warrior King which oversaw the military. It was created as a compromise between those who believed that multiple peoples should lead the Vaikan and those who thought a single ruler would do best.

Warrior King

According to Vaikan religion, the spirit and blood of Rustiagon Dralla, a legendary hero, is passed down through his descendants. Therefore, it was established that only a king could lead the Vaikan into combat. The Warrior King was responsible for everything military related in the kingdom. It was his job to act as a mentor and advisor to all of his comrades.

Vaikan monarchs and leaders have had a violent history. The criteria for becoming the Warrior King not only include relation to Rustiagon Dralla, but also superior physical and mental strength. The other criteria are that the one of the candidate's parents must have completed the trials themselves regardless of whether they have become warrior king or not to ensure that the Rustiagon bloodline remains intact.

There were two trials which were designed to be extremely rigorous to ensure that only the best of candidates will qualify. One of them was a 1000 question exam designed to evaluate the candidate's logic and reasoning. The exam usually took several days to complete due to the complexity of the questions. Generally, they involved basic Vaikan history, warfare tactics, flight simulations and other scenarios. Passing the exam does not rely on whether the questions are right or wrong. Instead, what is evaluated is the candidate's thought process and critical analyzation. Theoretically, it is possible to get every single question wrong and still pass though this has only happened once.

The other trial involved making several journeys across the most dangerous parts of Ucharpli to make sure the candidate is physically fit. This trial usually takes several months to complete. The candidate has to trek through the Swamp of Darkness of Tralgatar, the Frozen Wasteland of Aggateya, the Yolpika Mountains of Kytayur and the Great Sculpting Field of Kyartula. All of these locations are infamous for claiming the lives of unprepared travelers which adds to the danger of the trial. The total distance that must be travelled is just over 16,000 km - the only breaks are in between travelling continents.

If the candidate failed the 1000 question exam, they could simply try again. For the physical trial, the only way to fail it is to either deliberately abandon the journey or to succumb to the hostile environment. However, should the candidate fail the physical exam, they have to start over and retake the 1000 question exam.

Once the candidate passes, they rule for the rest of their life or until they are no longer fit for the throne. Anyone who is related to the Rustiagon bloodline can begin the trials as soon as they are ready.

In the past, there had been multiple candidates who completed the trials at the same time, thus coming into conflict as to who deserves the throne. To sort the problem out, the candidates are put in a tournament where they fight one another until only one remains conscious.

Today, the Karalian adopted a much shorter, yet harder version of this exam in order to make the monarch more easily replaceable.


The Council presides over political matters with representatives from each of Ucharpli's ten nations. Much unlike the Warrior King, the Council focuses solely on political skill rather than physical or mental strength. The Council itself is split into three major branches: the Council of Earls, Council of Colonists and the Council of Elders. The Council of Earls consists of a few select noblemen who are in charge of political and economic issues, while the Council of Colonists consists of several Vaikan per colony that act as representatives for their colony. The Council of Elders provides advice to the two other two branches.

While each Ucharpli nation had their own way of handling the economy, the overarching economy representing the Drallan Federal Monarchy followed a version of the laissez-faire principle. It was highly chaotic and unpredictable with businesses constantly struggling with one another to compete for the top. The Earl of Commerce was responsible for managing the current tax rates and overseeing the colonial representatives who in turn oversaw individual businesses.

Large businesses within the DFM are more or less small nations of themselves responsible for their employees. Civil wars between businesses are not uncommon as a result especially between groups of small businesses versus large monopolies. As a result, most businesses had their own private armies of synthetics which could fight these battles. The government did not step in directly to solve these disputes and wars unless the law is directly violated. However, the government themselves was not allowed to endorse one particular side.

Although businesses were free to compete with one another, the government demanded a flat tax rate to be able to provide enough funding for the Federal Legion, Internal Guard and other government programs. The actual rate differed from colony to colony.


The local currency was known as the Ckon and had a similar appearance to the Karalian Empire-era Ckon. However, they did not have precious gems imbued into them as at the time, gemstones were much more difficult to acquire.



The clothing style often varies from region to region and even planet to planet. However, the casual dress many Vaikan have is most often a wool tunic with leather boots. Green and brown tend to be the most popular of colors.


Drallan meals tend to be served in generous, elaborate amounts. The food itself is considered an art form with many stylistic traits incorporated into the design. For example, even simple cakes can be sculpted into various shapes.

For drinks, alcoholic beverages are rather surprisingly the norm. Wine is considered the standard drink to have with a meal, though Vaikan over the age of 30 will often substitute it for mead or rum. The Vaikan have built-in special mechanisms that allow them to resist alcohol poisoning making such drinks safe even in excess. However, children under age 30 have not developed such mechanisms except towards wine, which makes mead and rum illegal for anyone under the age of 30. Of course, if wine is unavailable, water is used instead.

Most Drallans generally have six meals per day. Wine tends to be a common drink served with all meals, including breakfast. Out of all meals, the evening meal tends to be the most elaborate.

When it comes to food, females are given priority given their higher status. Traditionally, males are responsible for cooking, presenting and cleaning up meals.

Surprise Dinners

Egg laying is an intensive task for the female as she requires vast amounts of nutrients to produce a healthy egg. One popular tradition to preparing a Vaikan for egg laying is in the form an enormous meal, served shortly after an egg begins to develop within the female. It is tradition that the male enlists the help of others to create an elaborate dinner for the female, an event that can take days of planning. Most importantly, the meal must be a surprise. Upon presentation of the meal, the female is generally expected to consume most or all of it.

Because of this tradition, asking to take someone out for a meal has a similar connotation as making a mating request. Rejecting an offering for a meal or finding said meal to be of subpar quality is taken very seriously.


Jamzezism is considered the official religion. Those who practice it are exempt from certain taxes.

All official government newsletters, before publishing, must be verified for factual accuracy supposedly to prevent the spread of false information. Adult Drallans are also required by law to have cursory knowledge and structure of the DFM. Exhibiting ignorance is considered a low-level crime.

Law enforcement

The KE has a strict crime policy. Most offenders are required to compensate for their crime somehow. However, more severe crimes result in execution.

Level 1

These are petty crimes. Among these include ignorance or stupidity outside of an academy or "leeching" off of someone else for money. If caught in the act, the offender is sent to a remedial institution until they overcome the issue.

Level 2

This consists of crimes such as theft. The offender has to pay a fine twice the value of the goods they stole, which are promptly confiscated. If they cannot afford it, they must undergo community service, the amount of time depending on the amount they stole.

Level 3

This consists of crimes such as smuggling and illegal immigration. The offender is exiled outside of KE territory. Any children of the offender born inside Vaikan territory are sent away as well.

Level 4

This consists of crimes such as assault. The offender has to spend time in jail depending on how badly injured the victim was.

Level 5

This consists of crimes such as murder, treason or betrayal. The punishment is execution often either on the spot by an Iggy or via a firing squad.
