The Kes Nebula is a remote, isolated area of Pilgrim's Esplanade with no known jumpgates that lead to it. Notably, it is home to the Xampula species, a pre-FTL civilization in the middle of a civil war.
Curiously, when viewed from a telescope from the Garden of the Celestials, the Kes Nebula takes the shape of a feminine humanoid face with long flowing hair, where two blue giants represent the eyes. This greatly influenced the local cultures of that particular region of space such as myths of a motherly goddess watching over the cosmos.
