The Reshans are an extinct sapient species of flying cephalopods with transluscent skin. They are from the planet Resha in the Ebon system, known for having an Arckasian megastructure called Ebon in place of a sun. The structure itself is older than the planets that formed around it, so in many ways, the Reshans owe their existence to it.

Very little is known of the Reshans' extent or if they ever managed to develop the means to leave their solar system on their own. However, they are known to have predated the Omni Empire by at least 66 million years.

Biology

Reshans are native to a planet with a thick atmosphere that traps the heat emanating from Ebon, creating a warm, tropical yet dark world. Like most other life forms on Resha, Reshans make use of bioluminscence to communicate with one another. Their bodies are transcluscent and their internal organs are visible from the outside - capable of also glowing in different patterns.

Culture

The only known archaelogical records of the Reshans come from the Omni Empire, who took a great interest in Ebon. Archeaologists had discovered that much of Reshan culture revolved around a complex mythology surrounding Ebon, which the Reshans called the Onyx Sun. Their society had seers which claimed they could hear voices coming from the Onyx Sun, and they also believed in hellish afterlife of eternal torture. The Omni were not aware of the existence of the Basilisk at the time, but they did know of Na'zrah. As such, they theorized that Reshan culture was influenced by the passive signals emanated from what they believed to be a dormant, yet corrupted Na'zrah node.

An incomplete research study found within the Spodan Archives hinted at a rather gruesome final fate of the Reshans. It is believed they eventually discovered the true nature of Ebon, confirming that the worst parts of their mythology were real. The afterlife which they feared physically existed as Ebon had been capturing the neural energy released from their bodies when they died, then preserving them to eternally torture them. The Reshans did not have the means to destroy Ebon to free themselves from the torture. As such, they proceeded in a mass ritualistic lobotomization in hopes of destroying their own brains to deny Ebon the chance to harvest their neural energy. Whether this actually worked for them or not is unknown as in the millions of years that followed, the computational patterns with Ebon had since degraded. Nonetheless, source code and architecture from Ebon would eventually be used by the Omni to construct LUCIS.
