The Karnasian Third Union (Taralian: Yanyoran Anaoran Karnasus), officially the Karnasian Union (Anaoran Karnasus) was established in the early 29th millennium BDR following the Purge of the Kais, which marked the end of the Karnasian Meritocratic Federation and the dawn of a military government that lasted for about 9,000 years. During that time, Taroran society was restructured using the Grand Covenant as a military hierarchy prioritising martial prowess and strength. The Third Union also saw Arkarnas' most rapid territorial expansion since the formation of the First Union, as the nation embarked on a long campaign of constant warfare and conquest. Alien species were brought into the fold of the Union for the first time, resulting in ethnocultural conflict within the Union, often leading to racial violence and sometimes even genocide and ethnic cleansing. However, in the latter millennia of the Third Union, social and political reforms resulted in integration of non-Tarorans into mainstream society and thus the hierarchy, and the first non-Taroran state leaders were appointed during the later Third Union. Ultimately, weariness and fatigue from thousands of years of conflict and war among the civilian population precipitated the downfall of the Third Union in the Karnasian Revolution, which replaced the military government with a new civilian authority in around 20,000 BDR. The Fourth Union swiftly ended the constant warfare and entered an unprecedented era of peace and social harmony, known to historians as the Shiwa Karnasel, or Karnasian Peace.
