Assassination of Bevil Skaista
The Assassination of Bevil Skaista was a major event that took place early in the history of the Allied Sovereign Nations in the decades that followed Sokeja Skaista's rise to power. Her son, Bevil Skaista, was killed by an Eros Ka'Rinah named Yoiku.
Overview
A rival warlord named Zalin Nemalonus was seeking revenge against Sokeja after she had made a devastating blow against a racketeering scheme he conducted on Smibrann, taking advantage of a volcanic eruption that displaced some of the local population. Zalin was eager to strike back at Sokeja in a very personal way, but knew she would be too clever for a direct attack. Zalin figured the best way was to infiltrate her family.
Most Eros Ka'Rinah assassins were quick to operate on their targets, often killing them in the span of one night by posing as prostitutes or caretakers. However, Sokeja was all too familiar with these assassination techniques given she once practiced them herself. She had also taught her children how to avoid these temptations. As the typically lustful approach would be ineffective, Zalin told Yoiku to exploit Sokeja's desire for family. Thus, when Yoiku was sent to target Sokeja's son, Bevil, a different, more careful approach was needed. Eros Ka'Rinah did not receive monetary compensation for their services, so Zalin promised Yoiku a chance to enact her own revenge after Sokeja had killed her twin sister.
Yoiku posed as another Vaikan girl close to Bevil's age as a fellow student attending the same academy. Bevil and Yoiku would get to know each other as close friends before developing a romantic relationship. Naturally, Sokeja was wary of any attempts of courting her children, but Yoiku was so effective at concealing her true identity that it fooled even Sokeja herself. Yoiku knew that she had to be patient as her goal was not just to kill Bevil but to inflict maximum emotional damage on Sokeja. It was much as carrying out an objective as it was making a performance.
After five years of dating, Bevil and Yoiku would agree to get married. A lavish ceremony would be held in the city of Wythua on Jaran, welcoming the newest member of the crime family. Other warlords and crime bosses came across from all over the Allied Sovereign Nations to witness this event.
Things would take a turn during the honeymoon when Yoiku and Bevil went off to spend time together alone. After the honeymoon, however, Bevil was nowhere to be found. One of the servants assigned to Yoiku noticed her mysterious, sudden increase in body weight while dressing her for morning activities. Yoiku simply told the servant that she and Bevil had mated and that Yoiku was preparing for carrying a child. One week later, in Bevil's childhood bedroom, Vaikan bones were discovered on top of the bed, carefully arranged to spell a mocking message directed at Sokeja. This message stated, "Thanks for the hospitality, my Queen."
This event instantly put Sokeja in a state of grief and pure rage as she realized what had just happened. Sokeja would then send her best trackers to find Yoiku and bring her in alive for interrogation. Yoiku was put inside a glass cauldron while in gelatinous form. Sokeja would gradually increase the temperature, to get her to talk about her employer's whereabouts. When Yoiku revealed that Zalin was responsible, Sokeja finished off Yoiku by boiling her alive. Before her death, Yoiku did confess to Sokeja that as much as Yoiku wanted revenge, she genuinely developed feelings for Bevil. A relationship, however, would never truly work as Lusari lifespans were only a fraction of that of the Vaikan. Yoiku was 27 at the time of death, one of the longest-lived Lusari ever.
Eventually, Sokeja would swear off using any Eros Ka'Rinah for herself ever again, now that she knew the pain of being attacked by one. Thus, she sent Le'anna, the one Eros Ka'Rinah in her employment to do one final task. Le'anna would be directly sent after Zalin to kill him, with the specific instruction to "savor your meal". When Le'anna's service was completed, she was euthanized by Sokeja.
