The Folkechse are a reptilian race native to Planetuheim, a planet in Pilgrim's Esplanade, and the founders of the Interdependent Systems Commonwealth.

Biology

Folkechse have a vaguely-humanoid stature: bipedal, with two arms and two legs, a single head and no tail. However, Folkechse skin is covered in gray scales, while their legs are digitigrade in nature. They have 4 toes: three face forward, and one faces backward; while they have three digits on their hands; 2 fingers and an opposable thumb. Folkechse heads have a vaguely-box shape to it, with their neck attached to the back of the head, as opposed to the bottom. As such, Folkechse necks and heads are hunched forward. Said heads sport a set of powerful, toothy jaws.

Folkechse reproduce through eggs, and have three biological sexes; one creates eggs, partially-analogous to Females in two-sex races; one fertilizes the eggs, typically analogous to Males in two-sex races; and one serves as a living incubator for the eggs, before birthing the young, also partially-analogous to Females in two-sex races. As such, originating from this reproductive process and requirements, Folkechse relationships are typically trifectas in nature. These sexes (Egg-Makers, Egg-Fertilizers, and Egg-Carriers) are called "Skapari", "Klarari", and "Handhafi", respectively.

Culture

The Folkechse, while not a fully warrior or militaristic people, do hold their military in high regards, and are fairly disciplined and honorable. However, they're also artistic and good with engineering. However, one major drawback to their civilization is that they're alright at a lot of things, but they are, as a culture, no true expert on any one role. "Jack of all trades" is a good description of the Folkechse.

However, that does not mean that there are no Folkechse experts in a given role; in fact, it is fairly common to find experts on many given trades among the Folkechse: master craftsmen, professional soldiers, artistic savants, and more can be found among the Folkechse.

In some ways, this 'lack of specialty' gives their various capabilities some level of synergy: decent engineering and mechanical skills supplies their military with good weaponry and armor; their artists and writers give their more visual entertainers plentiful inspiration for their shows and plays, and so-on.

While Folkechse soldiers mainly use plasma ranged weaponry, elite soldiers also possess specialized plasma longblade projectors mounted to one of their gauntlets, with higher-ranked soldiers and commanders possessing a projector on each of their gauntlets.

Technology

Far from the most advanced race, the Folkechse are also far from the least; nuclear fusion power generation is common in all but the smallest of their technologies; their weaponry is primarily plasma-based, although railguns and missile/torpedo weapons also exist; their defensive tactics are more reliant on armor, although some measure of energy shielding is present; and their sensors utilize basic gravimetric distortion detection. Their sublight propulsion consists of fusion rockets.

Trivia

  • Most names related to the Folkechse are compound words related to what it is in question, but A: the words switched, and B: the first word is in Icelandic and the second word is in German.
    • For example: Folkechse is derived from "fólk", Icelandic for "People", and "eshse", German for "Lizard" or "Saurian". As such, split into its composite words and reversed, Folkechse translates to "Saurian People".
    • The exception is their biological sexes, which are all in Icelandic, meaning "Creator", for "Skapari"; "Completer" for "Klárari" (which became "Klarari"); and "Bearer" for "Handhafi".
