A superluminal torpedo (also known as a warp torpedo or FTL torpedo. and colloquially as a warp-torp or super-torp) was a long-range projectile weapon capable of self-propelled spaceflight at superluminal speeds. Superluminal torpedoes were usually self-navigating, and generally had five main system components: a targeting computer, guidance system, flight system, subluminal engine and FTL drive. Superluminal torpedoes could also be equipped with warheads, depending on their purpose. Superluminal torpedoes derived their destructive power from the extremely high speed at which they hit their targets. The destructive yield of a superluminal torpedo was determined by three primary factors, namely speed, size and type of FTL drive.
