Jumpgate

Jumpgates, also known as stone rings, or warp gates, are the primary means of long-distance travel across the galaxy. While the FTL drive is the most common means of interstellar travel, it would take years for an FTL drive to cross the galaxy, while point-to-point transit via two jumpgates is instantaneous. The jumpgate technology used throughout the galaxy today is adapted from the remains of previous civilisations and is extremely expensive to implement.
