Oikianoids were omnivores that ate algae and small animals. Semiaquatic, they were able to live in water or land, but while they could survive without air, they required daily access to water to live. Changing climates and scarce food supply forced them to evolve to become more and more intelligent in order to survive.

By the time of the Second Galactic Senate, most Oikianoids were members of the [[Clomicyle State]].
